The Diamond Queen and why you either love her or hate her

Its early 1952, The Today Show premieres on NBC, becoming one of the longest-running television series in America; a tropical storm forms north of Cuba moving northeast and makes a landfall in Florida the next day, becoming the earliest reported landfall from a tropical storm and the Duchess of Edinburgh is proclaimed the Queen of the United Kingdom and five other Commonwealth realms. While at their Kenyan home, Sagana Lodge, the news of her father’s death back in England broke and 26 year old Elizabeth’s life completely changed forever. Today Queen Elizabeth is the constitutional monarch of 16 of the 54 sovereign states within the Commonwealth of Nations, and Head of the Commonwealth. Yesterday, 6th February 2012, marked a phenomenal period of reigning 60 years as Queen. Later this year we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne with the Diamond Jubilee weekend – a special four-day celebration, providing an opportunity for people and communities across the nation to celebrate this incredible milestone.
